13 months!

The end of the semester has been brutal, but I'm sneaking in 20 minutes on this crisp Easter morning to provide a super fast update before we head off to the neighborhood egg hunt.

Annika at 13 months is equal parts super fun and super cranky.  We've had a series of daycare illnesses (both conveniently - and horribly - timed to mostly affect weekends, which means she hasn't missed any daycare but has also been in rare form for the time we have her most), her molars are trying to emerge and her gums are super swollen, and she's been going through a very clingy phase in which mama can't go anywhere or do anything without screaming.  That said, when she's rested and Tylenoled, she is so, so much fun.  She is doing a lot more exploring of toys (putting things in and out of baskets, hauling dolls everywhere and burping them, wearing everyone's clothes all the time), and she and Maya wrestle like you wouldn't believe (to a continuous chorus of "Be gentle!!!" from me).  She's trying *so hard* to talk, but her clarity on sounds is pretty awful.  The funniest thing we notice about her is that while her synapses have connected enough to do and say lots of cool things, her brain is on about a 10 second lag :)  I think Maya went through a similar phase, but we're waiting for some new synapses to connect to provide a more direct processing route :)

Other than that, she is 100% walking (and starting to get fast, although she always looks like a barely controlled fall), starting to try to use a spoon, and eagerly attempting to keep up with Maya.  I was upstairs in the shower for this, but apparently last night, she threw herself down the foam wedge in the basement in a perfect backwards somersault while trying to imitate Maya doing handstands.  Talk about anxiety-inducing - I'm glad I didn't witness it directly!  Her signing is getting much better, and she now has a *very* enthusiastic milk sign.  Best of all, it needs to be documented for posterity (lest I forget) that since that very first week when I wrote that she goes to be in her own crib AWAKE and puts herself to sleep, she's continued to do this like a champ!  Go, Annika!  She still only sleeps there until maybe 3-4am, but that's awesome, in my book!

One last quick note on the health front - at her 1 year WCC, Annika not only measured to be enormous (like more enormous than she already was - 24lbs!!), but also mildly anemic (hemoglobin ~10, normal range 11-14).  It took us about two weeks to pick up her iron drops from the pharmacy, and what was interesting was her rapid descent into anemia-induced pica during those two weeks, especially paper products.  She's eaten chunks out of almost every board book that was within her reach!  After about two weeks on drops, she's pretty much stopped this, but it was wild while it was happening.

Things Annika loves:
- Putting on shoes
- Kicking mama in the face while nursing
- Sitting in chairs...and then getting out of them, then sitting back down, then getting back out....
- Abby, who is much more tolerant of this second baby and gets looooots of slobbery kisses and fur pulls
- Anything and everything that Maya does
- Dumping the contents of every cup - hers or mine - all over the floor
- Going outside!!
- Climbing stairs

Things Annika hates:
- Mama leaving the room
- Sun in her eyes
- probably a million things I'm forgetting

OK, everyone is screaming, have to go!

Annika loves Abby :)

And Abby puts up with it!

Overexposed, but some cute morning snuggles

I know, I know, too much boob - but we still do a lot of nursing,
and it feels weird to have the blog "cleansed" of that!

Maya's favorite recent activity - dyeing eggs!

We made some nice ones!

Four year old bliss :)

(sort of) Recent pretty snow

The North Country can still be pretty in winter
