Missives from the field

OK, actually this is more of a brief hello than a missive.  We are, however, in Australia!  We arrived in Perth on Tuesday, and we've been spending the intervening days driving around like crazy people trying to acquire the last of the field gear (essentially all the things that we couldn't fly here - including 7 weeks worth of diapers!).

Maya did wonderfully on the flights, sleeping 10 of 15 hours on the looooong trans-Pacific leg.  The Sydney to Perth leg was the most difficult, but we managed.  She's pretty jet lagged, so we've had some epic 3am breakfasts and more nursing than I think she did even as a newborn (I think I nursed her every 30-45 min during her waking plane hours, and it hasn't slowed down much from that even yet).  She's also a little sick, fighting a cold she had before we left that's since gotten a bit worse - hopefully that's peaked and she's on the mend!  However, there are kookaburras and magpies calling outside, plenty of sunshine, and a pool at our B&B.  Hard to be anything other than blissful :)

We leave for actual fieldwork sometime tomorrow, but I hope to have internet again in a few days at the "field station" (in quotes because it's actually just a cattle ranch, but I've heard rumor that there's some satellite internet).  I'll post when I can, and especially field photos of la petite because she's so incredibly adorable in her field gear!
