Two months!

Image
First things first: stats.  Annika had her 2 month appointment on Monday, where she got growth measurements and her first round of shots.  She is now a (WHOPPING) 13lbs 4oz and 23.25in (head circumference is 15.8in), so she's like 90th percentile in every metric.  For comparison, Maya was 11lbs 12oz and 24in at the same check, and she was born a pound heavier.  Annika still spits up a ton, but somehow she's almost doubled her birth weight as a 100% breastfed baby by two months - and she has doubled from her lowest weight after birth.  Husband has taken to calling her "Pudge-cicle." Annika at two months :) Shots went well - the first afternoon oscillated between the photo below and sleeping, but otherwise no fever and no redness/swelling at her injection sites.  I was nervous and pretty much hate the first round of shots when you don't know how your baby will respond, but I always tell myself that you know what's worse?  Pertussis.  Or meningitis.  Or he

As many thoughts as I can write

There's not enough time for everything I want to do in life right now, that's for sure!  I'm supposed to be reviewing a paper and definitely need to get to it today, but I have a baby sleeping in my lap and it's hard to concentrate on anything else :)  I've been feeling like I'm missing opportunities with blogging, seeing as I haven't written anything much yet about what Annika is like as a baby, or how Maya is actually handling the transition to big sisterhood.  I will try to remedy that now, as long as Annika stays napping and I can continue the awkward typing while balancing the computer precariously on part of my knee! At nearly two months old, I can say that Annika is definitely another "spirited" baby.  My mom, who was here only for Annika's first two weeks, said she wasn't and that if she got crazy, that's because we messed her up :)  I tried to explain to her that Annika was super jaundiced and all she was seeing was a very le

A "successful" trip to Florida!

As in, well, we didn't get eaten by any alligators.  Jury is still out, though, on whether or not giving a seminar at 6 weeks postpartum is brave or simply stupid.  I can't tell if I made a good impression or not...mostly I called us a "traveling circus" - which I think was an apt description. We are home now, and my job in recovery is to go do a bunch of gross laundry :)  Enjoy photos in the meantime! Florida is indeed way greener than the North Country :) Yay, we found alligators! They were all along the bank of the sink! Cutest pic of husband and baby :) ALL. THE. GATORS. I caught an anole - and it was even a carolinensis and not a sagrei ! This is how Annika felt about the plane ride. Moreover, Delta didn't have a changing table on *any* of our planes.  In 2017. Our host gave us a UF hat for Annika :)

Because that's literally all I have time for...while nursing.  Will try to take some photos while in Florida as well - wish us luck while we're off to be insane!  Hopefully I don't bomb the seminar and the baby doesn't pick up the plague on the plane.... Don't I look tired? Like 90% of my photos of Annika have her asleep - but that's just because she's pretty fussy when she's awake (but getting better!) My lap is full. Abby likes sharing me approximately as much as Maya does. My fat little angel :) All of us went snake catching this weekend :) Maya with two big sirtalis Ribbon snakes! Maybe I'm too obsessed with the eye color game, but it is SO FUN! My serious baby. Hemangioma status update, 5.5 weeks. We are fighting baby acne (with breastmilk smeared all over her face, mostly), but she is still so damn cute!
